We will be litter-picking along the river for the Great British Spring Clean 2017, in association with Asda. All equipment will be provided but please wear warm clothes, sturdy shoes and bring waterproofs. Refreshments will be provided.

Cross over the level-crossing and the car-park is on the immediate right. The site is in easy walking distance from Rotherham town centre along the Trans Pennine trail (see map for more details.)

    We'll be getting in the river to remove fly-tipped waste, such as trolleys and tyres. This is a physical day and any volunteers that want to get in the river will need to bring wellingtons or speak to us before about borrowing waders. There is always litter to be picked around the site for any volunteers that would prefer to not handle the larger rubbish pulled out of the river.

    All equipment will be provided but please wear wellies or sturdy shoes and bring waterproofs. We will bring the tea, coffee and biscuits! We offer volunteer expenses for public transport and vehicle mileage.

    We will be removing Himalayan Balsam - an invasive, non-native species - from the river bank. This plant has shallow roots which erode the soil on river-banks, and 'exploding' seeds which allow it to spread and colonise wide areas, preventing the growth of other plants. We will be hand-pulling the plants, which are easily removed from the soil, before they form new seeds and safely disposing of them.

    From Mushroom Roundabout: take the exit for Aldwarke Lane (A6123) continue over the bridge which crosses the River Don, then take an immediate left to where we will be parked.
