Don Network Grants 2017

Are you part of a community group and want to improve your local environment?

The Don Network is offering five grants of up to £2000 for projects which benefit the river or surrounding environment. Deadline for applications 29th December 2017, for a decision in January 2018.

For guidance on eligibility criteria and how to apply.

Here is how previous Don Network Grants have been put to use:

Rivelin Valley
Conservation Group

The Rivelin Valley Conservation Group used their Don Network Grant to replace rotten benches used for their outdoors classroom. The new benches are made from recycled plastic, and have a much longer lifespan than the wooden benches.

Don Gorge
Community Group

The Don Gorge Community Group applied for a Don Network Grant to improve the areas around Sprotbrough fish pass. They are consolidating the ruins of the old mill, clearing pathways and planting to create a safe route for visitors to the site.

Don Catchment
Rivers Trust

DCRT have been using their Don Network Grant in the Rother sub-catchment to improve Neverfear dam and weir. A partial collapse of the weir meant that water no longer flows into the goit, putting the dam at risk of drying up. DCRT are redirecting water to the goit and planting the dam with aquatic species to improve it as a habitat.

Sheffield and Rotherham
Wildlife Trust

Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust used their Don Network Grant to match fund the Nature Counts: Otterly Amazing project. They purchased 10 wildlife trail cameras and security boxes for recording otters in the middle Don sub-catchment. See footage from one of the cameras below!
