Sign up for a Bat Walk around the River Don and Don Ponds, near Burcorft Hill in Conisbrough 

Watch and learn how these incredible nocturnal predators hunt for prey and navigate around the landscape using a special kind of sonar.

We will be looking for different species of bats, using bat detectors to hear their fantastic calls (which the human ear cannot detect!).

Access:
The walk is very short and on flat ground, but please be aware we will be walking at night. Please let us know of any access requirements when booking a place.
Lanterns will be provided for attendees. Please wrap up warm!

    • Come and help Nature Experts conduct real scientific surveys of nature, learn how to catch and record nature sightings
    • Free guided nature walk and family activities at stalls will be running throughout the day - flower crowns, river dipping, who dung it? and much more!
    • Grab a map to explore the cemetery, or head to the Investigation Hub to join a walk or investigate your finds
    • Gilly's Bean Rover Coffee Van for snacks and drinks

     

    Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. 

     

     

    Access and Travel:
    To reach the Cemetery please use the postcode S6 2ET and follow the road to the end of Livesey Street

    There is a short flight of steps into the cemetery. The site is only partly accessible with steep hills and some uneven ground.
    There will be an accessible toilet on site.
    On Street Parking on Livesey Street and Free Off Street Parking is available at Owlerton Stadium (Main Car Park, please avoid the yellow/red bays).
    Get the Yellow/Blue tram to Malin Bridge (Hillsborough Stop, 20 min walk from Wardsend Cemetery).

    Join Gerry Firkins for a walk around Wardsend Cemetery - discover ancient woodland indicators, other wildflowers and trees growing in the cemetery and some of the stories about them. Learn how to identify some of the plants in the cemetery with Gerry's expert guidance.

    This event is part of the Wardsend Cemetery Bioblitz

    Walk Start Point: Meet at the Bioblitz Investigation Hub (the big white tent in the middle of the cemetery near the chapel ruins) at 11am to start the guided walk. You're welcome to explore the community stalls and other activities around your walk.

    Free Parking: On Livesey Street and at the Owlerton Stadium main car park (Please avoid the red & yellow bays)

    Access: Steep hills, narrow paths and steps. Please wear appropritate footwear.

    Families: Children are welcome on the walk, but please note it is aimed at adult learners.
