Young Nature Skills Day – Wetland Restoration

Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust and learn about wetland management and conservation. We will be using tools to remove trees and making habitat piles. You will also get a chance to do some willow weaving and make a star to take home. Hot drinks and snacks provided, plus optional Breakfast and chance to see behind the scenes at our office before the day!

When: 11am-2pm
Option to meet at 10am at the Don Catchment Rivers Trust office for breakfast and a lift to the site. We can give you a lift back to the office for arrival around 2.30pm.
We can also provide a lift from Doncaster train station at the start and end of the day if you let us know in advance.

What to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day, however please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work. We provide wellingtons to borrow on the day.
Please bring your own packed lunch and a cold drink.

If you are between the ages of 13-15, please ask your parent/guardian to get in touch to complete a parental consent form. You can come along without a parent, however we do require signed permission from a parent or guardian in advance.

If you are aged 16+ please let the DCRT team know if you wish to help out on our events so we can get you signed up as a volunteer. Written permission is not required but please let your parent or guardian know you are planning on attending and give them our details.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we work to clean up the small stream at the German Tunel in Adwick close to Adwick Train Station. This day is a part of the All Hands on the Don Project!

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust alongside Friends of Loxley Valley, as we help to remove the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam from the River Loxley in Sheffield

     

    When: Thursday 15th May 10am-1pm

     

    Where: EXACT MEETING POINT TBC. Please check back on this page nearer the time to see meet up point. Exact location will focus on how balsam has grown this year and so has to be determined nearer the time.

Even if it is warm weather, it is advisable to cover up to protect against spiky plants and stings.     What to expect: We will be walking along the paths along the river, pulling up Himalayan Balsam and leaving it in piles once we have snaped or crushed it below the bottom node. We will have a break at for refreshments and biscuits, provided by DCRT.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust alongside Springvale Community Garden, as we help to remove the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam from the Riverside Nature Reserve belonging to the garden the runs alongside the River Don.

    When: Wednesday 21st May, 10am to 2pm

    What to expect: We will be working in the Community Garden's Riverside Nature Reserve, pulling up Himalayan Balsam and leaving it in piles once we have snaped or crushed it below the bottom node. There are no toilets immediately on site but there are facilities in the Community Garden, which is a 12 minute walk around. 

     

    What to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day however please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy shoes or boots and long trousers. Even if it is warm weather, it is advisable to cover up to protect against spiky plants and stings.
