    Join us for a volunteer day at Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve.

    Meeting point: Steel Street next to Holmes Lock, S60 1FB. There is plenty of parking around here. The site is also in easy walking distance from Rotherham town centre along the Trans Pennine trail (see map for more details.)

    All equipment will be provided but please wear warm clothes, sturdy shoes and bring waterproofs. We will bring the tea, coffee and biscuits! We offer volunteer expenses for public transport and vehicle mileage.

    Doncaster & District Family History Society are holding their Annual Fair on Saturday, October 14th at the Deaf College [Opposite Doncaster Racecourse]. There will be a wide range of FHS stands, Genealogy suppliers, Heritage groups and Craft stalls. Entry is just £1 and there are two Free Talks. The main speaker will be Myko Clelland of FindMyPast, explaining “How to get the best from FMP”. Full details including a list of exhibitors, and directions can be found on Doncaster FHS website, www.doncasterfhs.co.uk.

    Don Catchment Rivers Trust will be attending, hoping to add your stories to our ‘Voices of the Don’ project. Come along and tell us your memories and stories of living or working around the river!

  • Canklow Woods Fungi Foray

    Explore the ancient Canklow Woods in Rotherham on this wild day out for nature enthusiasts, children and families!

    Visitors can discover colourful mushrooms and sensational toadstools with ecologist, Julie Riley, who is leading a guided walk around the historical woodland, starting at 10am **Walk starting 10am from the entrance on Lawton Lane lasting around 1hr30min **

    There will also be bush-craft activities, games and nature crafts between 11am-3pm.

    There will be no toilets available at the event. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear appropraite clothing and footwear!

    The Canklow Woods Fungi Foray is a free event, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of Don Catchment Rivers Trust’s ‘Living Heritage of the River Don’ Project.

    -Nature Bushcraft – bird feeder making – pine cone critters –

    stone art – dragonflies and butterflies

  • Darker Side of the Don

    Join DCRT and historian Ron Clayton for a delve into the dark tales the River Don has to offer. We will be taking a nocturnal guided walk meeting at Lady’s Bridge in Sheffield (S3 8NS). The walk will start at 7pm and last 1hr30 mins.
