    Explore the ancient Canklow Woods in Rotherham on this wild day out for nature enthusiasts, children and families!

    Visitors can discover colourful mushrooms and sensational toadstools with ecologist, Julie Riley, who is leading a guided walk around the historical woodland, starting at 10am from the entrance on Lawton Lane lasting around 2-hours.

    Parking will be available at the end of Lawton Lane, S60 2UH.

    Booking is essential – call the office on 01302 796173 or email [email protected] to book yourself a place! 

    Please note there will be no toilets available at the walk. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Note this walk is aimed at beginners and those looking to improve their identification skills of fungi and toad stools. This is not an edible mushroom foraging walk.

    This is a free event, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of Don Catchment Rivers Trust’s ‘Living Heritage of the River Don’ Project.

    We are offering a free accredited first-aid course as part of our volunteer training programme, delivered by an experienced River-Mountain-Experience trainer! Trainees must be available for either the first (1 day certificate) or both days of the course (extended 2 day certificate).

    The first day will focus on Emergency first Aid such as the recovery position & delivering CPR.  The second day will concentrate on more outdoor focused first-aid including applying bandages and splints, keeping people warm and assessing injured people.

  • Hydrology Training

    Join this course led by Paul Gaskell from the Wild Trout Trust which gives you practical guidance on geomorphology: creating physical features in the river for habitat restoration.

    Location & Time:
    Bridge Inn Pub, Ridgeway Moor, Ridgeway, Sheffield S12 3XY
    10.30am – approx 2.30pm

    About the training:
    The structure of this one-day course will involve a short classroom session followed by a visit to the river to see how to put what you’ve learned into practise. You’ll learn such things as how to place woody debris in the channel allowing the river to create microhabitats for spawning fish and invertebrates. This course is aimed at beginners and volunteers working in river management as well as anyone wanting to improve their knowledge. 

    Training is free but please note that volunteers and staff to DCRT and relevant organisation will be given priority. To sign up please download a Volunteer training booking form

    Please note: Apologies, this day has been postponed by CRT due to unforeseen circumstances – we shall we advertise the new date as soon as we can!

    The day will start and finish at Tinsley marina and will run from  9.45am to around 2pm.

    All PPE will be provided by CRT 

    Please bring any drinks or food (packed lunch) you may require – we’ll bring the usual refreshments along!
