  • Volunteer Day – Don Valley Way – Crimpsal Sluice

    Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as they fit a bench at Crimpsal Sluice and collect litter from the surrounding area. There will be a break for refreshments in the middle of the day which are provided.

    We will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 1pm, and will be meeting in the Prison car park.

  • Citizen Science: Identification Workshop

    In this workshop we will be sorting and identifying samples of freshwater invertebrate specimens, with a particular focus on identifying families.
    The task will be working through collected samples, sorting the inverts into taxa and then identifying to family where possible.

    The data is all going into our citizen science research project to monitor the benefits of river restoration work

  • Queens Park Volunteer Day

    Join Don Catchment Rivers Trust for a volunteer day cleaning-up the Holme Brook. All abilities welcome!

    Location: Queen’s Park, Chesterfield S40 2BF. Meeting just behind the cafe on the footpath. Metered parking off boythorpe road, volunteers can claim expenses.

    What to bring: We will provide all necessary equipment and refreshments. All you need to wear is appropriate outdoor clothing (waterproof, long sleeves and trousers) and sturdy shoes.

    Tasks include: Litter picking, debris removal, vegetation maintenance, invasive species management and access improvements.

    Timings: Day runs 10am – 1pm but feel free to come whenever suits. We have a tea break around 11.30am.

  • Bat Field Survey 1 – Canklow Wood

    Join us as we survey the bats in the Canklow Woods area. Help us record the sightings of Noctules, Serotine, and Pipistrelle Bats.

    Please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and if possible please bring a torch. End times may vary depending on how quickly we complete the survey. We are meeting at 21:50 and will be setting off at 21:57. Spaces are limited so please get in contact via [email protected] or get in contact with survey leader Anthony Cox on 07384 543124. Trust Volunteers will be prioritised over the general public.

  • Volunteer Training: Open Water Safety

    Sign up to our one day open-water awareness course led by David Adams from River-Mountain-Experience.
    Training held at Monkey Park, Chesterfield with some outdoor practise. Free lunch provided.

     

    Learn about the dangers of working near rivers, how to keep the volunteer team safe and what to do in an emergency. We’ll be learning how to help someone that enters the water, practising how to use throw-lines and demonstrating the use of life-jackets. There will also be some training in what personal protective equipment should be worn when working in the water and how to use and maintain it.
