    Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as we work with the Friends of Shircliffe to clean up the Shircliffe Brook as it runs through Flockton Park.

    We wil be meeting at 10am in the small car park off Beaver Hill Road and finishing at 1pm. There will be a break half way through for refreshments. We will complete a risk assessment on the day to assure the safety of all our volunteers. Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. On the day we will be providing wellies and waders for people to borrow however we have a limited amount of sizes so please bring sturdy footwear.

    Tasks include: Litter picking, channel debris/litter removal

  • Waymarking Day – Don Valley Way (Conisbrough – Swinton)

    Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as we walk the Don Valley Way to replace any missing or damaged way markers along the route.

    We will be meeting at Conisbrough Railway Station and progressing along the Don Valley Way at 10am and will walk to Swinton Railway Station. It should take 3-4 hours but we can not be sure how long it will take. There are trains from Swinton to Conisbrough throughout the day however so it should be easy to get back to the start.

    Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear on the day. Volunteers must arrive before 10am as we will be leaving then. Please bring your own lunch and drink for the day as we will not be able to provide refreshments on this day.     Join us for a day on the River Rother collecting freshwater invertebrates using the kick sampling method from the riverbed. We’ll identify invertebrates such as mayfly, caddisfly, freshwater shrimp, leeches and flatworms during the day – the assemblage and diversity of these tiny creatures can give an indication of the health of the river.

  • Hedgelaying Training (must book)

    An all day course on the traditional craft of hedgelaying, led by professional hedgelayer, Jasper Prachek.

    A limited number of spaces are available for DCRT volunteers on a hedgelaying course on farmland in Grassmoor, Chesterfield. The training will take place on a final section of hedgerow that is being laid as part of our work to help slow flood flows and boost biodiversity on farmland near the Avenues. This will be physical work using traditional tools such as billhooks, axes and hand saws. We hope to lay more hedges as part of future projects in the Chesterfield area and expect any volunteers who take part in the training to continue to help with this work.

    Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as we work to clean up in and around the Meers Brook close to Plowright Drive.

    On the day we will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 1pm. We will complete a risk assessment on the day to ensure the safety of all volunteers. We will be stopping half way through for a tea break. On the day you will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. We can provide wellingtons and waders however we won’t be able to provide footwear for every volunteer.
