    Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as we work to clean up in and around the Meers Brook close to Plowright Drive.

    On the day we will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 1pm. We will complete a risk assessment on the day to ensure the safety of all volunteers. We will be stopping half way through for a tea break. On the day you will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. We can provide wellingtons and waders however we won’t be able to provide footwear for every volunteer.

  • Ickles Lock – Tree Planting POSTPONED (now a litter-pick)

    Please note this date has been postponed due to the woodland officer being off with covid – we will now be running a litter-pick

     

     

    Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way and Rotherham Council for a day of tree-planting at Ickles Lock. We’ll be planting small trees onto a grassland area. The trees are a mixture of native species that will act to support wildlife and provide new woodland habitat at the site. These trees will also help soak up and intercept rainwater, helping to ‘slow the flow’ of water into the navigation during high rainfall events.

     

    Times: 10am-1pm
    Date: Tuesday 11th January

    Where: We are meeting at the small car park off Brinsworth street. Go over the level crossing, then over the bridge over the canal and it’s the second right into the car park.

    Equipment and protective gear, like wellingtons, will be provided for volunteers to borrow on the day.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers trust as we cut through the vegetation to create a new path on the Hollingwood Hoops where part of the path has collapsed into the River Rother. We will be starting at 10am and working until the path is complete with breaks for refreshments. If you are not yet signed up as a volunteer email [email protected] to register.

    Tasks: Cutting a path through the hedge with loppers and shears.

    Join Don Catchment Rivers Trust for a practical conservation volunteer day on the Moss Brook Catchment. All abilities welcome!

    Location: Please note, the meeting location varies so you need to email [email protected] for details for where we are meeting.

    What to bring: We will provide all necessary equipment and refreshments. All you need to wear is appropriate outdoor clothing (waterproof, long sleeves and trousers) and sturdy shoes. Also feel free to bring your own pair of wellies/waders if you have them. We will have a range of sizes to borrow but can’t guarantee a pair for everyone. 

    Tasks vary but include: Woody debris installation, scrub control/wetland management, access improvements, natural flood management.

    Timings: 10am – 3pm (break 11.30am and 1pm for lunch)
