There is free parking in a car park off Stone Lane. SUMMARY:Priory Farm – Balsam Bash
DESCRIPTION:Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust at Priory Farm in Renishaw to help remove the invasive plant species Himalayan balsam. Himalayan Balsam outcompetes native flora and results in bare river banks over winter which can increase erosion and flood risk. We’ll be pulling out the plants and snapping above the roots to prevent regrowth. This work goes hand in hand with our efforts to slow flows through the woods at Priory farm using leaky barriers of varying shapes and sizes. \nSpaces are limited so please book on to this event using the Eventbrite link below. \nPLEASE NOTE: This event is weather dependent as the site floods. If it has been\, or is forecast to be very wet\, we may need to postpone. SUMMARY:Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve - BioBlitz
DESCRIPTION:The Don Catchment Rivers Trust will have a stall at the Family BioBlitz Day at Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve. We will be on the Shire Brook river dipping\, counting up all the different invertebrate species we can find. \nBioBlitz’s are family events where are are trying to discover as many species of plants\, animals and fungi as possible within 24 hours! This helps us learn about the nature in the site and can help inform future schedules of work. This is a fun way for families to learn about nature\, with the help of lots of experts. \nOur river dipping session will take place in the Brook so if you want to have a go at dipping yourself\, please come in wellies. We will be dipping between 11am and 1pm. All nets and other equipment will be provided. Other activities will be happening all over the site so please look at this website for further information. Head over to the visitor centre to start and they can tell you where everything is. \nWhen: Tuesday 21st July 2026\, 11am to 1pm (full event runs 7:30 am to 3:30pm) \nWhere: Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve\, Stone Lane\, S13 7BR\nFree parking in car park here. DESCRIPTION:THE LOCATION FOR THIS VOLUNTEER DAY HAS CHANGED SO PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE INFO BELOW. \nJoin the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we help to remove the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam from a tributary of the Dearne in a lovely private woodland. \n  \nWhen: Thursday 23rd July\, 10am – 1pm \n  \nWhere: We will be working through a private woodland on a small tributary to the River Dearne. We will be meeting at the lay by on Hollin Edge/Common Lane\, HD8 8YW. The layby is small so please car share/walk where possible. \nWhat 3 Words: https://w3w.co/lend.condensed.seat\nGoogle Maps Pin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EKZsNddzm7oWoivT7 \n  \nWhat to expect: We will be working in the woodland\, pulling up Himalayan Balsam and leaving it in piles once we have snaped or crushed it below the bottom node. Paths are not paved and the woodland is steep. Please wear suitable footwear in particular and good mobility is needed. We will have a break at 11:30 for refreshments and biscuits\, provided by DCRT. \n  \nWhat to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day however please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy shoes or boots and long trousers. Even if it is warm weather\, it is advisable to cover up to protect against spiky plants and stings. We can provide wellingtons to borrow on the day but please let us know in advance by emailing volunteer@dcrt.org.uk to ensure we have your size. \n  \nJoining us? All are welcome however not all of our sites are completely accessible to all\, please check the access advice below.
