“Volunteering for DCRT has been amazing. They have been so supportive and provided me with opportunities to learn that I would not have had otherwise. I’ve been given the chance to help organise projects and spend time in nature. I’ve met some amazing people and made some great friends.”
“Volunteering is fun and relaxing. I’ve been learning a lot and I like feeling like I have achieved something. You can’t be more connected to the river than wading in it.”
“Having lived in Chesterfield for the past 14 years, I have long held a desire to want to help clean up our local rivers and pathways. I have spent time in my local area helping to pick up litter and generally make the area look much nicer and more presentable. All staff and volunteers are a friendly bunch and I have always been made to feel really welcome, even though it’s not something that I can commit to regularly.”

Volunteer Opportunities in Chesterfield:
Working alongside DCRT staff you will help to make physical improvements to the rivers in the Chesterfield area. This will include improving access, litter picking, removing invasive non-native species (INNS) and small scale habitat works in rivers.
Citizen Science – Wildlife recorders
Help to monitor the improvements made to the Rother before and after we remove a weir that impounds the channel. Train to survey and identify wildlife and contribute to important monitoring. Help identify and record images of wildlife from wildlife camera footage.
Volunteer Opportunities around Sheffield, Rotherham & Doncaster:
Friends of the Don Valley Way – Conservation Volunteer
Take part in one of our regular river clean up working parties along the Don Valley Way, ran in conjunction between DCRT and our volunteer team ‘the Friends of the Don Valley Way’. Depending on the season and location we will be litter picking, tackling invasive species, clearing out rivers, improving paths and maintaining trails. We will be taking care of areas where we have installed benches, murals, bins and information signs. As part of the group you have the opportunity to suggest ideas and contribute to improvements to the Don Valley Way.
