Hexthorpe Riverside Retreat
About Hexthorpe
Riverside Retreat
Welcome to Hexthorpe — once a place where the people of Doncaster escaped the bustle of the town for fresh air, music, and riverside leisure.
In the late Victorian and Edwardian era, parks like this were designed as places of relaxation and entertainment. Families would arrive in their finest clothes, strolling beneath trees, enjoying picnics, boating, and outdoor performances.
Imagine arriving here on a spring afternoon — perhaps for the May Day celebrations, when ribbons danced around the maypole and music drifted across the park.
Today you’re following a route that weaves together Hexthorpe’s riverside landscape, its historic performance spaces, and the ancient wetlands known as the Ings. This 2 mile circular route should take around 1 hour at a relaxed pace.
