Hatfield Colliery

For centuries this river has shaped life in the Don Valley. Long before the pit wheels turned at Hatfield Main, these waters powered mills, irrigated farmland, and carried goods through the region.

But in the twentieth century, Hatfield would become known for something else entirely - coal.

Hexthorpe Riverside Retreat

This trail explores Hexthorpe's Industrial and Leisure heritage, following along the river Don, exploring Hexthorpe Flatts Park and concluding with a woodland loop around a historical wetland.

This gentle waterside trail explores the network of historic canals and waterways that helped shape the industrial landscape of South Yorkshire.
