10:00 -13:00 02-11-21 Steel St, Rotherham S60 1FB, UK  Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as we litter pick the tow path along the canal near Holmes Lock. On the day we will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 1pm. We will complete a risk assessment on the day to ensure the safety of all volunteers. We will be stopping half way through for a tea break. On the day you will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. We can provide wellingtons and waders however we won’t be able to provide footwear for every volunteer. 8 | 9 - Waymarking and cleanup Day – Don Valley Way
10:00 -14:00 09-11-21 3 North St, Swinton, Mexborough S64 8AZ, UK Task: Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way for a volunteer Day in Swinton, Rotherham We will be starting with an hours litter pick at Swinton Dike, followed by a tea-break and then go on to waymark the Swinton Heritage Walk. Location: We will be meeting on the playing fields at Swinton Dike Please park in the spaces on North Street ( S64 8AZ) by the allotments. 15 - Data4Nature at Wardsend Cemetery: Bird Survey
10:00 -12:00 15-11-21 1A Club Mill Rd, Sheffield S6 2FH, UK  Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust, DCRT and the friends of Wardsend Cemetery have teamed up to collect Data for Nature as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded Data for Nature project. We’ll be hosting monthly bird surveys in the Cemetery and on the riverside to help collect data and monitor birdlife in the area If you have birding skills we’d really appreciate your help surveying, or if you are a beginner come along to practise your skills! | 16 - Newfield Spring Woods (Moss Valley) NFM Volunteer Day (must book)

Tasks: natural flood management – leaky dam installation Timing: 10am – 3pm The main activity of the day will involve building leaky dams of different sizes made out of timber from the woods that are fixed into position across streams. The dams help to slow down flood flows as water levels rise during heavy rainfall. Activities will include digging, sawing, post bashing, moving logs into position and fixing them in place. It’s quite physical work but we have lifting aids to help share the load and will have plenty of breaks and biscuits to help keep energy levels up! Long sleeves, trousers and waterproofs are recommended. All other equipment will be provided. There are a limited number of spaces available so you will need to book on to sessions in advance. 22 | 23 - Ickles Lock Tree-planting Volunteer Day
10:00 -13:00 23-11-21 Brinsworth St, Rotherham S60 1AB, UK Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way and Rotherham Council for a day of tree-planting at Ickles Lock. We’ll be planting small trees onto a grassland area. The trees are a mixture of native species that will act to support wildlife and provide new woodland habitat at the site. These trees will also help soak up and intercept rainwater, helping to ‘slow the flow’ of water into the navigation during high rainfall events. Times: 10am-1pm Date: Tuesday 23rd November Where: We are meeting at the small car park off Brinsworth street. Go over the level crossing, then over the bridge over the canal and it’s the second right into the car park. 29 | 30 - Underwater Photography Training
10:00 -12:00 30-11-21 Cannot determine address at this location. Join DCRT for a training day on how to use underwater cameras to film aquatic species. We will be getting into the water to learn how to set up and place underwater cameras (GoPros) in order to get the best footage using pole mounted and weighted cameras. We will be mainly capturing video footage. There is a possibility of reaching into the water so attendees may wish to bring a spare change of clothing. All other necessary equipment will be provided by DCRT. Training will happen on Tuesday 30th November at Somersall Park, Chesterfield – 10am – 12pm. If attendees enjoy this training there will be more opportunties to use our equipment for future projects. This training session will be led by Matt Duffy (fishery habitat officer) and Sally Hyslop (community engagement officer). 10:00 -13:00 30-11-21 21 Lawrence Dr, Swinton, Mexborough S64 8SN, UK  Join the Friends of the Don VAlley Way as we remove litter from the Swinton Breks and remove overgrown vegetation from the foot path. We will be meeting at 10am just off Lawrence Drive and finishing at 1pm. Half way through there will be a break for refreshments. Please weafr suitable clothing for outdoor work.
