Natural Flood Management (NFM)
The Don Catchment Rivers Trust uses a variety of approaches to tackling the challenges facing our rivers and the communities which surround them. Natural Flood Management (NFM) is one such technique which compliments traditional flood defences. It is based on the principle of working with nature to capture and slow the flow of storm water into the river network, reducing the risk of downstream flooding. NFM can also deliver many other benefits such as increasing drought resilience, providing wildlife habitat, improving water quality and capturing carbon.
