Watch and learn how these incredible nocturnal predators hunt for prey and navigate around the landscape using a special kind of sonar. Funded by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund

12 | 13 | 14 - Canal Walking Festival: Brindley Loops Walk
13:00 -14:30 14-09-22  Cut off in the late 1800s by the creation of new railways, the remnants of the original Chesterfield Canal are often left unnoticed. On this walk, follow the forgotten line of the Brindley Loops, stopping at industrial heritage sites along the way. Look out for nature and learn how the River Rother is being restored to create a more wildlife-rich river. The walk is mostly flat, but sections may get muddy, so please wear appropriate footwear. Distance: 2½ miles Grading: Easy Circular walk, several stiles Starting point: The public car park just south of the Sitwell Arms Hotel, Main Road, Renishaw, S21 3WF Grid reference: SK 44478 Starting time: 1 p.m. Finishing time: 2.30 p.m This walk is part of the Canal Walking Fetsival. 19 - CANCELLED Data4Nature at Wardsend Cemetery: Bird Survey
10:00 -12:00 19-09-22 1A Club Mill Rd, Sheffield S6 2FH, UK  Please note this event is no longer planned due to the bank holiday Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust, DCRT and the friends of Wardsend Cemetery have teamed up to collect Data for Nature as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded Data for Nature project. We’ll be hosting monthly bird surveys in the Cemetery and on the riverside to help collect data and monitor birdlife in the area If you have birding skills we’d really appreciate your help surveying, or if you are a beginner come along to practise your skills! On the day we will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 1pm with a break for refreshments in the middle. We will be meeting on The Park (road) near the entrance to the lake park close to the allotments (please check pin). A risk assessment will be completed on the day to ensure the safety of all volunteers. Please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy shoes. Wellies can be provided on the day. 26 - Newfield Spring Woods (Moss Valley) – NFM Volunteer Day (must book)

Tasks: natural flood management – leaky dams Timing: 10am – 3pm The day will involve tasks such as leaky dam installation, maintenance and repairs. The leaky dams of various shapes and sizes help to slow the flow of storm waters contributing to a wider programme of interventions that aim to reduce flood risk in the area. The day will involve activities such as moving logs with lifting aids, sawing, digging, post bashing, and clearing debris that has built up behind the dams. It is quite physical work so please do join us if you like getting your hands dirty and having a good work out! All abilities welcome but please do contact us if you have any concerns and would like further info. Long sleeves, trousers and waterproofs are recommended. All other equipment will be provided. There are a limited number of spaces available so you will need to book on to sessions in advance. 10:00 -13:00 27-09-22 Stonerow Way, Parkgate, Rotherham S60 1SG, UK  Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as we work to clean up the Don Valley Way along the tow path of the canal. On the day we will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 1pm. We will be meeting on Stonerow way, next to the bridge over the railway. We will complete a risk assessment on the day to ensure the safety of all volunteers. We will be stopping half way through for a tea break. On the day you will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. We can provide wellingtons and waders however we won’t be able to provide footwear for every volunteer.
