Newfield Spring Woods (Moss Valley) - NFM Volunteer Day (must book)

Join DCRT and the Friends of Newfield Spring Woods on a volunteer morning to carry out maintenance works of leaky dams installed in the woods that help to slow the flow of storm waters.
When: 26th September, 10am – 1pm (refreshment break provided by DCRT at 11.30)
Where: Newfield Spring Woods, Moss Valley, Sheffield
What to bring: Long sleeves, trousers and waterproofs that you don’t mind getting muddy! All other equipment will be provided.
Tasks include: Clearing the debris and silt that has built up behind the leaky dams and potentially making adjustments to the dams themselves to improve how well they function. We’ll be in shallow waters using rakes, spades, and other hand tools.

Wilder Salmon Pastures - Community Volunteer Day (must book)
Join Don Catchment Rivers Trust for a volunteer day at Salmon Pastures. All abilities welcome!

There are a limited number of spaces available so you will need to book on to sessions in advance.
Location: Salmon Pastures, Sheffield, S4 7DZ (a more precise meeting point will be sent once you’ve signed up to the event)
What to bring: We will provide all necessary equipment and refreshments. All you need to wear is appropriate outdoor clothing (waterproof, long sleeves and trousers) and sturdy shoes.
Tasks include: Felling/hinging small willow trees to provide cover for fish using hand tools. This task will involve entering the river channel in waders and making a cut in the tree that will fell it, whilst retaining an attachment at its base – much like hedge laying. All techniques will be explained at the beginning of the day as well as a health and safety talk.
Timings: 10am – 3pm (break 11.30am and 1pm)
