| 5 - Priory Farm – Leaky Barriers (NFM)
10:00 -13:00 05-03-25 Cannot determine address at this location.  Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust at Priory Farm in Renishaw to build leaky barriers across the brook and floodplain. As water levels in the brook rise during heavy rainfall, they will hit the leaky barriers, back up behind them and spill into safe spaces in the floodplain, creating temporary storage of flood flows. Spaces are limited so please book on to this event using the link below. PLEASE NOTE: This event is weather dependent as the site floods. If it has been, or is forecast to be wet, we may need to postpone. We will contact you if this is the case. Task: Creating leaky barriers using hand tools (e.g. hand saws, loppers, maul) and lifting aids (e.g. timber tongs and log lifters) to prepare, move and fix logs into position. Let’s Get Litter SortedNow that the DCRT’s Hidden Heritage project has come to an end, Kathy and Margaret from Chesterfield’s Transition Chesterfield group are kindly taking on one of the regular Thursday (second Thursday of every month) litter picking days to help continue the amazing clean-up work along our riversides. Litter will be sorted and surveyed to build up a picture of the biggest polluters! Please note these days will be advertised on the DCRT events calendar and DCRT volunteers are welcome, but they are run by the Transition team, so you’ll need to let them know if you are attending. Email Kathy on [email protected] if you plan to join the session and please read the details below | When: Second Thursday of every month, 10am. Who: Volunteers are needed and very welcome. Children or anyone needing additional support will need to be accompanied by an adult carer. Where: The meet up point will be in Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, on the footpath behind the Cricket Pavilion (What3Words point: invite.button.sulk). How: The group will work together to sort out the litter into separate bags as we pick it up. No-one will be working alone, this is a team effort! 17 - Wetland Bird Survey at Fishlake

What to expect: Identifying wading and wetland birds can be tricky, so please ask if you are unsure and share your knowledge with others if you know any tips and tricks! | 20 - Blonk Street – Clean Up

We will be aiming to remove litter from the river banks. We will be accessing the river by the slope down from the footpath. When: Thursday 20th March, 10am – 1pm Where: We will be meeting in Windrush Way car park. This car park is small and fills up easily. Please do wait at the meeting place in case I have difficultly parking the van. For volunteers, I would recommend the Victoria Quays car park which is relatively cheap but a 5 min walk to the meet up point. Alternatively there is the NCP Blonk Street which is just the other side of the river so a shorter walk but more expensive. Either way, please claim back your travel expenses (so it doesn’t actually matter which you choose, I just don’t like feeding the greedy parking dogs). 24 - Nature Counts: Wardsend Cemetery Bird Survey
10:00 -12:00 24-03-25 1A Club Mill Rd, Sheffield S6 2FH, UK  Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust, DCRT and the friends of Wardsend Cemetery have teamed up to collect Data for Nature as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded Data for Nature project. We’ll be hosting monthly bird surveys in the Cemetery and on the riverside to help collect data and monitor birdlife in the area. If you have birding skills we’d really appreciate your help surveying, or if you are a beginner come along to practise your skills! | 26 - Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve – Tree Mulching

Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we team up with Sheffield City Council to put mulch down around the trees we planted back in January. This is in Linley Bank Meadows (within Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve). We will be hauling mulch out of the truck and putting it around the trees to suppress weeds, keep moisture locked in the soil, and it rots down to feed the trees. Please note this event can be postponed in the event of bad weather, please let us know if you intend on attending so we can update you. When: Wednesday 26th March, 10am-12pm Where: We will be meeting at the nature reserve car park just off Beighton Road. It has locked gates which will be open for our group.
