Free Riverfly Monitoring Initiative Training,  Friday 16th May, 10am-3.30pm

DCRT and the Friends of Wardsend Cemetery are holding a Riverfly Monitoring Initiative training course, where volunteers can become certified riverfly monitors, joining the Sheffield River Rangers group to help detect water quality issues.

    When: Friday 16th May, 10am-3.30pm
Where: Burton Street Foundation in Hillsborough, Sheffield with a site visit to Wardsend Cemetery and practical session in the river Don.

    What‘s involved?

    • Beginners are very welcome and no prior knowledge on riverflies is needed – all training is given on the day.
    • Please be aware RMI is very practical (you’ll need to get into the river to conduct a survey!)
    • This training is for those that wish to volunteer long-term, as part of a local RMI group. Surveys are recommended once a month between April and October and take around 2 hours.
    • Equipment and waders are provided for training.

Places are limited and awarded to those that can actively volunteer after the training. Please email [email protected] to express your interest in becoming a trained monitor.

For more info about RMI head to the Riverfly Partnership website. For more information about your local RMI group head to Sheffield River Rangers. To watch a survey in action click here.
