    THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE BALSAM FLOWERS GOING INTO SEED AND SO IT NOT BEING VIABLE TO WORK ON THE SITE ANYMORE. We do not want to risk disturbing the seed pods and spreading them.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we help to remove the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam from the River Don at Watermeadows Park in Penistone. 

    When: Thursday 7th August, 10am – 1pm

     

    Where:15 Tennyson Cl, Penistone,S36 6GY. There is free street parking and we will use the footpath to go up into the park.

    What to expect: We will be working in Watermeadows Park, pulling up Himalayan Balsam and leaving it in piles once we have snaped or crushed it below the bottom node. We will have a break at for refreshments and biscuits, provided by DCRT. There are no toilets immediately on site.

     

    What to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day however please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy shoes or boots and long trousers. Even if it is warm weather, it is advisable to cover up to protect against spiky plants and stings. We can provide wellingtons to borrow on the day but please let us know in advance by emailing [email protected] to ensure we have your size.

    Daubenton's Bat Survey

    Join us for a National Bat Monitoring Scheme Waterways Survey, looking for and recording sightings of the wonderful river-loving Daubenton’s Bat. We will be completing two waterways surveys during August, on the 7th and 21st. Please note the different times of each survey as we coordinate bat surveys with sunset times.

    When: Thursday 7th August

    Time: Evening session, meeting at 9.15pm, finishing at 11pm

    Where: Marsh Gate, Doncaster DN5 8AF (parking on the road outside the Doncaster Skate Cooperative, Unit 3, near Everyday Athlete’s Club)

    What to bring: Walking boots or good trainers, as the path can be muddy and we will be going down some steep slopes near the river.
    DCRT will bring hi-vis and bat-detectors and lanterns.

     

    Joining us? All are welcome, including beginners. Please note this is a wildlife survey, rather than a bat walk. We are counting numbers of a species of bat.
