The GREAT Sheffield RIVER clean-up!

23-03-19 10:00 - 15:00
ball street
Address: 2 Ball St, Sheffield S3, UK

If you have been inspired by ShAFF’s Paddle for the Planet screening on Friday 22nd March, why not join the Riverlution for real? Take part in your own real-life activism adventure at the Great Sheffield River Clean-up !

As part of Riverlution Re-Connected, River Stewardship Company will be hosting a joint river clean-up with Don Catchment Rivers Trust between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 23rd March. Join them to take vital action to improve the health of the River Don and protect Sheffield against future flooding. They will be working on the stretch of the river between Ball Street Bridge and the Gardener’s rest on Kelham Island and they need Sheffield’s active and adventurous community to help out!

There will be a choice of activities: young children can help make a bug hotel, there will be litter picking galore, and if you fancy working up a sweat you can help fish out the odd car bumper, or join the pruning squad. You can join in for as long as you like between screenings at the Showroom.

On the day, please register at the Great Sheffield River Clean-up basecamp outside Kelham Island Kitchen. All the protective gear you need will be provided but please bring warm clothes and wear sturdy footwear!

Finish the day feeling like a waterway warrior and celebrate with your fellow river rats at ShAFF’s second selection of adrenaline-fuelled, water-inspired adventure films (Water Films 1) on Saturday night (Film tickets can be bought here )

Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust at Priory Farm in Renishaw to help remove the invasive plant species Himalayan balsam. Himalayan Balsam outcompetes native flora and results in bare river banks over winter which can increase erosion and flood risk. We'll be pulling out the plants and snapping above the roots to prevent regrowth. This work goes hand in hand with our efforts to slow flows through the woods at Priory farm using leaky barriers of varying shapes and sizes.
