Stay Current Riverside Walk

30-06-21 13:00 - 16:00
Loundsey Green
Address: 49 Pennine Way, Chesterfield S40 4NG, UK

A riverside walk all about ‘slowing the flow’, following the Holme Brook from Loundsley Green, through Holme Brook Valley park and up to Linacre reservoirs.

Natural flood management is an effective and nature-friendly way of catching and storing high rainfall and floodwater. On this afternoon stroll up the Holme Brook, Don Catchment Rivers Trust will be explaining how simple, relatively small-scale measures, such as tree-planting and pond-creation, can add up to create real benefits, helping to reduce flooding, protect people and improve our natural environment.

Walk grading –  A 6-mile circular walk This is a moderate walk (walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness).

On this walk we explore Grassmoor Country park and the nearby Avenue Washlands, two historically industrial areas that have been reclaimed for nature and people.

Find out how restoring floodplains can increase flood storage and help to ’slow the flow’ of our rivers. Admire the wildlife that has returned and flourished in these once heavily industrialised areas.

Walk grading - 6 mile walk, leisurely (walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience).
