Wildlife Wednesday Moss Valley

Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we tackle the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam along the banks of the Moss Brook.

On the day we will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 3pm. We will complete a risk assessment on the day to ensure the safety of all volunteers. We will be stopping half way through for a tea break. On the day you will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. We can provide wellingtons and waders however we won’t be able to provide footwear for every volunteer.

If you are not yet signed up as a volunteer please email volunteer@dcrt.org.uk to become a volunteer. We will be following all the Government guidelines for COVID 19 at the time of the event.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we Tackle the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam along the banks of the River Rother, helping to increase the diversity of plants and protect the river banks.

    We will be meeting at 10am and finishing at 3pm with breaks for tea and lunch. We will complete a risk assessment on the day to ensure the safety of all volunteers. You will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. We can provide wellingtons and waders however we won’t be able to provide footwear for every volunteer.

    Please note there is limited parking available at the meeting point. If you intend to drive it would be greatly appreciated if you could park nearby and walk to the meeting point. The Avenue Country Park car park is about a 15 minute walk away (see map below). If you are not familiar with the area and would like more info on parking options, please contact us at volunteer@dcrt.org.uk.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust for a volunteer day to improve walking routes along riverine environments. All abilities welcome!
    We need help installing waymarking posts along the Hollingwood Hoop Walking route.

    Timings: 10am – 3pm with a break in the morning and for lunch. Feel free to come to part of the day if required. 

    What to bring: We will provide all necessary equipment and refreshments. All you need to wear is appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy shoes. Bring lunch if you're staying out the whole day.

    Tasks include:We'll be doing some vegetation clearance along a riverside path using hand tools. We'll also be installing several waymarking posts and tactile waymarkers along the walking route.

    Location: Meet near the junction of Station Road and Campbell Drive, Barrow Hill, Chesterfield, S43 2PT.

    Tasks: leaky dam installation

    Please be aware that face coverings are required to be worn for the task as we will be operating within 1m+ social distancing. DCRT are able to provide a clean, disposable facemask. If you would prefer to bring your own face covering to the day you are welcome to.

    Timing: 10am - 3pm

    DCRT staff have been working to make the volunteering experience as safe as possible, with new systems to protect you in place.

    This day will have a limit of 4 volunteers. You will need to book on to sessions in advance and provide details for Track & Trace. An electronic risk assessment and guidance sheet will be sent to your email address before the task.

    All equipment is provided. Volunteers will receive on loan their own hand-gel, gloves and hi-vis from the DCRT team.

    There will be the opportunity for a tea break and lunch during this session.
