Welcome to DCRT Youth

For young people (age 13-25 years) in the Don Catchment, who care about our rivers and our environment.

We offer volunteering and work experience placements as well as special events for youth groups and colleges. Want to get involved even more? You can join our youth panel and put your voice to our charity.

Volunteering with us can go towards Duke of Edinburgh award, scout badges, John Muir award and National Citizen Service. Plus our volunteering is completely flexible.

Come along for a taster day and see if you enjoy it!

What kind of volunteering can I do?

♥ Speak to the public at our stall at community fetes and shows
♥ Create and lead new activities
♥ Help clean-up our polluted rivers
♥ Take part in practical tasks and learn to use tools
♥ Help record and survey different animals and plants found by the river
♥ Volunteer and gain experience with our wider volunteer team

You can also help guide the trust by becoming part of a Youth Panel, working with our directors and sharing your ideas to make the trust a better organisation.

Find a taster day above and let us know if you’d like to join us!

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, make your CV look great to employers, meet like-minded people and give back to your community!

Can I volunteer without a parent/guardian?

Please let the DCRT team know if you wish to help out on our events so we can get you signed up as a volunteer.

If you are between 13-15: As long as we have signed permission from your parent/guardian in advance, you can come along to any of our volunteer days unsupervised.

If you are between 16-18: Parent/guardian consent is not usually needed for volunteering (but it is always good to let your parents/guardians know what events you plan to attend).

Do you offer any help getting to volunteer days?

DCRT will pay for your travel exepnses (bus, tram or train ticket or car journeys at 20p a mile) and we always bring snacks and refreshments.

What did our work experience students have to say?

“Having completed the week, I am now certain what I want to do, I want to work in conservation inspiring the younger generation in caring for the environment.”
Finn

“I have enjoyed every minute of my time with the DCRT.”
Lucy

“I took part in many jobs during my work experience ranging from completing riverfly surveys with volunteers to completing outdoor school sessions with year 4’s, and much more.”
Dillon

Internships & Apprenticeships

We offer paid apprenticeships and internships, keep an eye out on our vacancies page or sign up to our newsletter to stay in the loop.

“Working alongside and supporting DCRT’s amazing team of
volunteers has also been one of the highlights of my kickstart position. Volunteering days gave me the opportunity to learn many new skills including kick sampling, meadow and bird surveying, post-installation and waymarking, litter picking and building bird boxes.”
Beckie, Kickstart trainee
