    POSTPONED Young Nature Skills Day: Bushcraft at the Salmon Pass

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust and learn bushcraft skills!
    Work around a campfire and learn how to cook a campfire lunch, with an activity about rivers and weirs from the DCRT team, and learn how to make your own catapult!

    When: 11am-3pm
    We can provide a lift from our office on Wheatley Hall Road or Doncaster train station at the start and end of the day, if you let us know in advance.

    Where: Meeting at Nursery Lane Car Park, near the Boat Inn with a short walk to the Salmon Pass.

    If you are between the ages of 13-15, please ask your parent/guardian to get in touch to complete a parental consent form. You can come along without a parent, however we do require signed permission from a parent or guardian in advance.

    If you are aged 16+ please let the DCRT team know if you wish to help out on our events so we can get you signed up as a volunteer. Written permission is not required but please let your parent or guardian know you are planning on attending and give them our details.

    Priory Farm - Leaky Barriers (NFM)

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust at Priory Farm in Renishaw to secure existing leaky barriers and build new ones across the brook and floodplain. As water levels in the brook rise during heavy rainfall, they will hit the leaky barriers, back up behind them and spill into safe spaces in the floodplain, creating temporary storage of flood flows. Spaces are limited so please book on to this event using the Eventbrite link below. 

     

    PLEASE NOTE: This event is weather dependent as the site floods. If it has been, or is forecast to be very wet, we may need to postpone. We will contact you if this is the case.

     

    Task: Secure existing leaky barriers and build new ones using hand tools (e.g. hand saws, loppers, maul) and lifting aids (e.g. timber tongs and log lifters) to prepare, move and fix logs into position.

    What to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day but please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including long sleeves and trousers that you don’t mind getting muddy! Waterproofs are also worth bringing if you have them. Steel toe wellies will be required which we will provide but you’re welcome to bring your own if you have them. We will also provide refreshments and biscuits for a tea break but please bring water and any other food you may need.

    Stainforth and Hatfield Station - Cleanup Day

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we work to remove litter from in and around the unamed stream close to Hatfield and Stainforth Station. This day is a part of the All Hands on the Don project.

    Hexthorpe Ings - Wetland Restoration

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we work to clear vegitation from the Hexthorpe Ings to improve the wetland. This day is a part of our All Hands on the Don project. 

    When: Wednesday 29th October 2025 10am-3pm

    What to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day, however please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy shoes or boots and long trousers. Please bring your own packed lunch if you would like to stay for the whole day. 

    What are we doing: On the day we will be removing scrub and trees to help the site reamain wet and prevent it from becoming woodland, as well as increasing the sunlight reaching the wetland, to help encourage more plants to grow and increase biodiversity.

    Sinister Stories of the Don Catchment - Ghost Walk

    Join Don Catchment Rivers Trust for a Ghost Walk along the River Don – a 4 mile walk (2.5 hours) through the lost village of Levitt Hagg, across Conisbrough Viaduct and along the river Don – horrifying tales of witch trials, boggarts & ghostly encounters included along the way…

    Meeting at Nursery Lane on the canal, setting off at 3.30pm.
    Limited Parking is on Nursery Lane & Sprotbrough Village, please plan ahead and make sure you have time to find a spot.
    Walk finishes at the Boat Inn for a warm-up and hot drink.

    Access: Steep paths, tricky terrain and low light levels mean this walk is only suitable for confident walkers. Please wear good boots and consider bringing walking poles if you need them, as the paths are uneven, muddy and slippery in places. Lanterns will be provided.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust to remove litter from the River Done in the Dronfield Nature Park. 

     

    Task: Litter picking. We will be working along the bankside and within the river to remove litter. 

     

    When: Thursday 30th October 2025, 10am – 1pm

    There is parking available over the railway bridge at the entrance to the park. The DCRT van will not have crossed the bridge due to the weight limit.
