    10:00 -13:00
    28-05-26
Cannot determine address at this location.

Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we help to remove the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam from the River Drone in Dronfield.

What to expect: We will be walking down through the Nature Park to the River Drone where we will remove the Balsam plant. This involves pulling it out of the ground by hand, snapping it below the first node and leaving it to rot on site. This is made easy by its shallow roots. This is a key conservation task along our watercourses over the summer growing season as the plants are non-native an invasive. They outcompete local plants meaning there is a reduced biodiversity on that site and their shallow roots don’t encourage complex soil structure so make the river banks susceptible to erosion in the winter. For this site, we made need to wear waders to get to the plants, depending on the water levels. We will have a break at for refreshments and biscuits, provided by DCRT.

    When: Thursday 28th May, 10am – 1pm

Where: Dronfield Nature Park, 268 Chesterfield Rd, S18 1XJ
