Newfield Spring Woods Volunteer Day – NFM (must book)

Tasks: natural flood management – including mini-leaky dam installation, gulley-stuffing, willow spiliing, log-jams.

Please be aware that face coverings are required to be worn for the task as we will be operating within 1m+ social distancing. DCRT are able to provide a clean, disposable facemask. If you would prefer to bring your own face covering to the day you are welcome to.

Timing: 10am – 3pm

DCRT staff have been working to make the volunteering experience as safe as possible, with new systems to protect you in place.

This day will have a limit of 5 volunteers. You will need to book on to sessions in advance and provide details for Track & Trace. An electronic risk assessment and guidance sheet will be sent to your email address before the task.

All equipment is provided. Volunteers will receive on loan their own hand-gel, gloves and hi-vis from the DCRT team.

There will be the opportunity for a tea break and lunch during this session.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust and S13 Litter Pickers as we work to remove litter from the Shirtcliff Brook in Flockton Park. 

     

    When: Wednesday 8th January 10am – 1pm

     

    Where: EXACT LOCATION TBC. Please come back to this page sooner to the time to find out where our meeting point will be. We will be working on the Shirtcliff Brook in Flockton Park but there are multiple entrances.

    What to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day however please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy shoes or boots and long trousers. We can provide wellingtons to borrow on the day but please let us know in advance by emailing [email protected] to ensure we have your size. 

     

    What to expect: We will be walking along the paths in the wood, collecting litter and brining it back up to the road. The brook is fairly small and we will be hauling larger items out of it where possible using people power and ropes. We will have a break at 11:30 am for refreshments and biscuits, provided by DCRT.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we team up with Sheffield City Council to plant trees in the Linley Bank Meadows (within Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve). We will be planting trees in the meadow which will help attenuate flows into the Shire Brook. Please note this event can be postponed in the event of bad weather, please let us know if you intend on attending so we can update you.

     

    When: Wednesday 22nd January, 10am-12pm 

     

    Where: EXACT MEETING LOCATION TBC. Please check back nearer the time.

    We will be working in the Linley Bank Meadows but we will meet on a nearby road. Please check back or email Charlotte ([email protected]) if you are unsure.
