Join DCRT for a volunteer day at Hartley Brook, Sheffield.

Meeting point: Please meet us on Sicey Avenue, near the junction to the B6082. Nearest postcode is S50EN.
There is on-street parking on Sicey Avenue and nearby residential roads.

All equipment will be provided but please wear warm clothes, sturdy shoes and bring waterproofs. We will bring the tea, coffee and biscuits! We offer volunteer expenses for public transport and vehicle mileage.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust as we team up with Sheffield City Council to plant trees in the Linley Bank Meadows (within Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve). We will be planting trees in the meadow which will help attenuate flows into the Shire Brook. Please note this event can be postponed in the event of bad weather, please let us know if you intend on attending so we can update you.

     

    When: Wednesday 22nd January, 10am-12pm 

     

    Where: We will be meeting at the nature reserve car park just off Beighton Road. It has locked gates which will be open for our group.

    What to bring: We provide all of the equipment on the day however please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy shoes or boots and long trousers. We can provide wellingtons to borrow on the day if you'd prefer, but please let us know in advance by emailing [email protected] to ensure we have your size. 

     

    What to expect: We will be working in the meadow to plant trees. The Council will be running the day and will provide all equipment and training.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust and S13 Litter Pickers as we work to remove litter from the Shirtcliff Brook in Flockton Park. 

     

    When: Wednesday 8th January 10am – 1pm

     

    Where: We will be meeting at the end of Goathland Drive, S13 7TD. This is one of multiple entrances to Flockton Park.

    What to expect: We will be walking along the paths in the wood, collecting litter and brining it back up to the road. The brook is fairly small and we will be hauling larger items out of it where possible using people power and ropes. We will have a break at 11:30 am for refreshments and biscuits, provided by DCRT.

    Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust to prune hedgerows at the farm adjacent to the River Rother. This well help them grow back fuller, retaining more water and supporting greater biodiversity.

     

     

    Task: Vegetation management. Pruning hawthorn, blackthorne etc using loppers, saws, shears. We will also need to remove the tree guards present from when we planted them a few years ago.

     


    When: 
    Thursday 6th February 2025, 10am - 1pm

     

     

    Where: Farmland off Ave Farm track, on the east side of the river. 
    Please note there is limited parking available at the meeting point. If you intend to drive it would be greatly appreciated if you could park nearby and walk to the meeting point. The Avenue Country Park car park is about a 15 minute walk away (see map below). A DCRT staff member will be in the Avenues car park at 9.45am to show people the way so please be there in time to meet them if you would like to walk together to the meeting point.
