Don Valley Way Volunteer Day: Rotherham litter-pick and tidy-up
Meeting Point: Meet in the Forge Island car-park by the canal footbridge that crosses over by the law court. Email [email protected] for more information or call task-leader Sally Hyslop on 07780333743.
Time: 10am-1pm with a break for refreshments.
Please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work.
So where does all that litter we pick from the riverside go? The vast majority of it is taken away by Streetpride and delivered to the BDR Waste Treatment Facility. This award-winning plant extracts any remaining recyclable materials from household waste and turns what’s left into fuel for low carbon electricity! The facility diverts around 95% of waste from landfill, making a significant carbon dioxide saving.
Shanks, who have also funded the LHRD project, have organised a tour of the BDR waste facility so we can see this whole process in action!
If you would like to come along on the tour please email [email protected] or get in touch with one of the team via text. We will need to know your shoe size and jacket size (S, M, L, XL, 2XL) in advance so that Shanks can organise our safety clothing for the day. Parking is limited at Shanks so we will also be organising car-shares.
Join Friends of the Blue Loop for a volunteer day along the River Don in Sheffield. Please note: DCRT are no longer co-hosting this day, it is led by our partner organisation the Friends of the Blue Loop (DCRT volunteer expenses will therefore not apply).
They will be clearing up a fly-tipped bank that runs down to the river as well as giving the area a general tidy up.
Meet at 10.30am (finishing around 1.30pm) at Warren Street next to Washford Bridge (there’s two entrances).
Paul Winks from FotBL will be leading the day (Matt Duffy from DCRT will no longer be in attendance). Contact them on 0114 3540012 for more info.
