    River Rescue - Friends of the Don Valley Way - Hartley Brook

    Join the Friends of the Don Valley Way as we remove liter and other debris from the Hartley Brook. We will be meeting at 10am at the bottom of the path from Butterwaite Road, and finishing at 1pm with a break half way through for refreshments.

    Please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work including sturdy footwear.

    Citizen Science Training: Introduction to Freshwater Invertebrates & Mayflies

    Two 1-hour training sessions which will introduce you to the freshwater invertebrates we encounter in the river.
    Beginner level.

     

    10am-11am: Introduction to Freshwater Invertebrates (presentation and practical microscope work), led by Sally Hyslop
    11am-12pm: The Mayflies (presentation and practical microscope work), led by Paul Hancock.

    Microscopes and ID guides will be on hand for identification. Refreshments provided.

    Spital Trail Volunteer Day

    Join Don Catchment Rivers Trust for a volunteer day cleaning-up the Hipper. All abilities welcome!

    Location: Spital Trail, Clayton Street, Chesterfield, S41 0DU. Parking here is difficult, would recommend parking on streets adjacent to here e.g. Spital Lane or Stanley Street

    What to bring: We will provide all necessary equipment and refreshments. All you need to wear is appropriate outdoor clothing (waterproof, long sleeves and trousers) and sturdy shoes.

    Tasks include: Litter picking, debris removal, vegetation maintenance, invasive species management and access improvements.

    Timings: Day runs 10am – 1pm but feel free to come whenever suits. We have a tea break around 11.30am.
