Photo Album – Summertime at DCRT

What an incredible summer on the riverside! As well as our regular volunteer days we’ve been hosting community events, taking part in local fetes and festivals, and delivering guided walks and talks. In this latest blog we share our favourite snaps of summer in the Don Catchment.

Our volunteers have been busy cleaning up our rivers, but we’ve also completed butterfly and meadow flower surveys, as well as water quality testing over the summer months…

For the first time this summer, we partnered up with Doncaster Artbomb Festival and had an unforgettable time working with inspiring artists, ecologists and scientists. Art, creative events and discussions with the theme of alternative ecologies and rewilding, took place on the riverside and in the town centre.

Lots of little ones became Brook Explorers this Summer time – taking part in our flower-press making, river boat race, river dipping and bug hunts.

We’ve worked with some fantastic local primary schools. Pupils have written letters to their MP about plastic pollution, visited their local river and taken part in river art sessions.

We completed our River Rother Well Dressing at Tapton Lock Festival. Hundreds of people helped us press petals, leaves, berries and other natural materials into this year’s design – see if you can spot the grey heron and brown trout.

We’ve hosted guided walks, including evening bat walks and created a summer holiday river trail for families to enjoy in the Holme Brook Valley.
