13:00 -15:00 20-09-19 A Heritage Open Days Walk … Salmon have not been able to live in the River Don for over 200 years. Obstacles in the river such as weirs, and industrial pollution led to their disappearance. However, since the 1970s organisations have been working hard to restore the river and now salmon have been seen in the Don. On this guided walk, Don Catchment Rivers Trust Trustee, Chris Firth MBE, will guide you along the river from Lady’s Bridge to Meadowhall explaining how the river has recovered. You will see the new fish passes and easements recently installed and there is always the possibility of seeing some interesting wildlife along the way. This is a linear walk starting at Lady’s Bridge in Sheffield and ending at Meadowhall. You can park at Meadowhall and get the tram into the city centre, or there are several car parks in Sheffield. The walk is guided one way, and you will need to make your own way back. The walk should last approximately 2 hours. Booking essential … click here to book
