Find as many different species of birds, bugs, bats and beasties as you can before the day runs out! In partnership with the Friends of Wardsend Cemetery, the Blue Loop, Sorby Natural History Society, the University of Sheffield & Museums Sheffield. Don Catchment Rivers Trust are celebrating the recovery of Sheffield’s rivers and the return of amazing wildlife, with a day of interactive nature activities for kids, families, beginners and experts – a Don Discovery Bioblitz Drop in and see us on the day between 12 and 3pm for free nature activities including: ● River Dipping with the Friends of the Blue Loop ● Otter Signs and Spraints Investigation with Dr Deborah Dawson and Dr Natalie dos Remedios (University of Sheffield), Amy Withers (University of Leeds), Sara Blackburn, Ben Keywood & Jayne Scally (Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust), Sarah Proctor, Joe Margetts and Barry Soames (Moors for the Future Partnership) ● Bug Hunting with Don Catchment Rivers Trust & Moors for the Future Partnership ● Arts & Crafts Activities and fly-tying Walks & Talks with wildlife experts throughout the day ● (12.30-1pm) History of Fish in the Don Talk with Chris Firth MBE ● (1-1.30pm) Nature Tracks and Trails – looking for small mammals, slugs and snails with experts Val and Bob Clinging from Sorby Natural History Society ● (1.30-2pm) Butterfly & Bee walk with Ben Keywood from Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust and Joe Margetts from Moors for the Future Partnership ● (2-2.30pm) River Bird Walk with Don Catchment Rivers Trust ● (8.30-10.00pm)Evening Bat Walk led by Alistair Mclean, the Curator of Natural Science for Museums Sheffield and bat expert Kate Denton from the University of Greenwich. To reach the Cemetery please use the postcode S62ET and follow the road to the end of Livesey Street. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The site is only partly accessible with steep hills and some uneven ground. Come and help Nature Experts conduct real scientific surveys of nature, learn how to catch and record nature sightings Free guided nature walk and family activities at stalls will be running throughout the day - flower crowns, river dipping, who dung it? and much more! There is a short flight of steps into the cemetery. The site is only partly accessible with steep hills and some uneven ground. There will be an accessible toilet on site. On Street Parking on Livesey Street and Free Off Street Parking is available at Owlerton Stadium (Main Car Park, please avoid the yellow/red bays). Get the Yellow/Blue tram to Malin Bridge (Hillsborough Stop, 20 min walk from Wardsend Cemetery).
