Your walk leader, Chris Firth MBE, will guide you around a circular walk taking in the River Don, the River Cheswold and the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation. The waterways in Doncaster have a fascinating history and heritage. The river was once abundant with Salmon, but the industrial revolution put obstacles in the river and polluted it. This walk will focus on its recovery from a ‘dead’ river, explaining how organisations including the Don Catchment Rivers Trust have helped migratory fish return to the Don. Meet on Marshgate by Doncaster Lock (DN5 8AF). This is a free event.
