Litter Pick-nic at Centenary Riverside Park

13-08-18 11:00 - 14:00
Address: Brinsworth St, Rotherham S60 1AB, UK

Litter picking and conservation groups in the Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster areas will be joining up for a litter pick and and picnic at Centenary Riverside Park this summer! Get together with your friends of group, litter picking team or local community group together and meet some of the other people that are making a difference in the area. A great opportunity to meet other groups and celebrate what we have all achieved.

A join event with our partners Love Where You Live Rotherham and The Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust.

Refreshments will be provided (cakes and soft drinks) but please feel free to bring along a picnic or blanket. There will be a table for each group to display any leaflets or information they would like to share and some activities for groups to get involved with including litter picking, pond dipping and adding to our map! Rotherham Council will be asking volunteers to add their painted hand prints to a collage, to reflect the ‘helpful hands of volunteers’ which will then be used to decorate Coleridge Children’s Centre. Refreshment, snacks and blankets will be provided.

Parking: Parking is limited for this event so please use alternative transport if you can. There is some on street parking available on Riverside Way. If you need accessible parking please contact Sally and she will arrange for you to drive on to site – [email protected].

As part of Chesterfield Walking Festival, Debbie our NFM officer, will be guiding a walk around Grassmoor Country Park to explore a recently completed flood alleviation and habitat creation scheme. Find out how DCRT are using nature-friendly ways to catch and store water - reducing flood risk, protecting people and benefitting wildlife.

We will explore 4 different zones in the park that have been created to capture and store rainfall and runoff, reducing pressure on the local river network during heavy rainfall, and completing the circular park route with 360-degree views over Chesterfield.

We will be on and off path during this walk and it may be muddy underfoot so appropriate footwear is recommended. This walk is circular so we will finish back at the car park.
